Zeppelin Goes Digital November 13, 2007

LED ZEPPELIN TO RELEASE DIGITAL CATALOG

The Legendary Band's Original Albums Available For The First Time At All Online Music Retailers November 13, 2007.

LOS ANGELES -- Led Zeppelin's catalog is among the most enduring bodies of musical composition to come out of the 20th century -- and now it's coming to the 21st. As one of digital music's final holdouts, the band's illustrious catalog is one of the most highly anticipated digital releases to date. Beginning November 13, 2007 the band's original albums will be available for full-album or a la carte download from all online music retailers.

The albums being made available include Led Zeppelin (1969), Led Zeppelin II (1969), Led Zeppelin III (1970), Untitled fourth album (1971), Houses Of The Holy (1973), Physical Graffiti (1975), Presence (1976), The Song Remains The Same (1976; recently remixed and remastered for reissue on November 20), In Through The Out Door (1979), Coda (1982), How The West Was Won (2003), and Mothership (available November 13). Featuring such indelible anthems as "Communication Breakdown," "Whole Lotta Love,"

"Immigrant Song," "Stairway To Heaven," "D'Yer Mak'er," and "Kashmir," these releases, together with various retrospective collections, have sold more than 300 million albums worldwide.

"We are pleased that the complete Led Zeppelin catalog will now be available digitally," said Jimmy Page.  "The addition of the digital option will better enable fans to obtain our music in whichever manner that they prefer."

"The Led Zeppelin catalog is a highly anticipated and essential addition to the world's leading digital music services," said Edgar Bronfman, Jr., Chairman and CEO of Warner Music Group. "In their 12 years together, Zeppelin created one of the most powerful, influential, and timeless bodies of work in the history of modern music. They not only enjoyed enormous commercial success, but their ground-breaking musical innovation transformed the cultural landscape. We have been planning for this landmark day for a long time, and we look forward to expanding Led Zeppelin's presence across a full array of digital platforms."

Over 25 years after disbanding, Led Zeppelin continues to inspire generations of fans. The September 12 announcement that the band would reunite for a one-off concert in honor of Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun created unprecedented demand as an estimated 80,000 fans a minute attempted to access the concert's official website to register. More than a million fans attempted to apply for one of the 10,000 tickets available in a random drawing for the band's first concert in over 19 years at London's O2 Arena on November 26, 2007.

Announced earlier this year, on November 13, 2007 Atlantic Records/Rhino Entertainment will release Mothership, a 24-track, two-CD comprehensive collection that spans their 12-year career. All eight of the band's classic studio albums are represented, with the tracks being personally selected by Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, and John Paul Jones. Originally released in 1976, The Song Remains The Same soundtrack album of the concert film features songs from the band's three-night stint at Madison Square Garden in July 1973. On November 20, The Song Remains The Same soundtrack gets the deluxe reissue treatment, with the band members overseeing the remixing and remastering of the original release. The new version of the soundtrack includes six songs that were not on the original release, plus new liner notes by Academy Award-winning director Cameron Crowe (Almost Famous).

Formed in 1968, from the ashes of The Yardbirds, guitarist Jimmy Page brought in Robert Plant, John Bonham, and John Paul Jones and toured as The New Yardbirds. In 1969, their self-titled debut was released and is regarded as one of the most important rock records ever made. Led Zeppelin went on to become the colossal rock icons that we know today, setting new records along the way for fan attendance at their gigs and record sales.

Universally recognized as one of the most successful, innovative, powerful and influential bands in modern music, Led Zeppelin continues to be honored for their pivotal place in music history. In 1995 they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005, and were awarded with the Polar Music Prize in Stockholm in 2006.

Ahmet Ertegun Tribute Line-Up Adds Foreigner

On Monday, November 26, 2007, Foreigner will share the same stage at London's O2 Arena with Atlantic Records label mates Led Zeppelin for a long-anticipated tribute concert honoring the late Ahmet Ertegun, the visionary founder of Atlantic Records.
d sixteen top thirty hits for the label. "I feel truly honoured to be participating in this unique and exciting event." (see full quote attached)

Foreigner and Ahmet's Atlantic experienced nothing short of a tremendous collaboration. The band is second only to the legendary Led Zeppelin in worldwide sales of all artists currently distributed by Atlantic. Foreigner "4" spent more weeks on the Billboard chart at number one than any album by AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, U2, The Rolling Stones, Genesis, Phil Collins, Eric Clapton and every other artist in Atlantic Records 60 year history. The strength of the Foreigner catalogue continues, and no Atlantic classic rock era artist comes close to Led Zeppelin and Foreigner to this day. In fact, the band's 'Very Best and Beyond" catalogue CD just hit #16 on Billboard charts and has been certified double platinum.

As expected and hoped for, Jason Bonham -- son of the late Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham and  Foreigner's drummer -- will be joining Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones for the historic benefit concert.

"I must thank Mick for giving me the time off from Foreigner to fulfil a dream that was once thought to be my destiny," says Jason. "Led Zeppelin are to play at the O2 arena in London on the 26th of November for their dear friend Ahmet Ertegun to raise money for his educational foundation. Ahmet was a huge part of Led Zeppelin's and my father's success. He was a very special man, and it is a truly great privilege for me to join Robert, Jimmy, and John Paul for this concert. I am sure Ahmet and my father will be watching. I hope to do them proud." (see full quote attached)

Proceeds from the concert spectacle -- which will include performances by Pete Townshend, Bill Wyman and the Rhythm Kings and Paolo Nutini -- will go to the Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund which provides students with annual scholarships to universities in the UK, USA and Turkey.

In addition, a music scholarship open to all will be established at Ravensbourne College in the UK.

Tickets for this once-in-a-lifetime concert will be available by ballot only with names being chosen at random. To register, please go to www.ahmettribute.com. Tickets will be limited to two successful applicants per household.

Beginning approximately two weeks prior to the Tribute To Ahmet Ertegun, Foreigner will be embarking on a tour of the UK on a trek that will encompass the following cities*:

Friday, November 9th - ABC in Glasgow, Scotland
Saturday, November 10th - Newcastle City Hall in Newcastle, England
Monday, November 12th - St. David's Hall in Cardiff
Tuesday, November 13th - Guildhall in Portsmouth, England
Thursday, November 15th - Civic Hall in Wolverhampton, England
Friday, November 16th - Apollo in Manchester, England
Saturday, November 17th - Shepherd's Bush Empire in London, England

*More dates to possibly be announced.

The November UK comes hot on the heels of the band's summer tour where they hooked up with Def Leppard and Styx for approximately thirty shows in addition to several solo performances and an extensive tour of Germany.

The journey through Europe will coincide with the release of the band's forthcoming live DVD, Alive & Rockin', which will be released on Eagle Rock Entertainment.

Hughie Thomasson of The Outlaws Dead at Age 55

Hughie Thomasson - founder of the legendary Southern rock band the Outlaws - passed away at his home in Brooksville, Florida on Sunday, September 9th, of an apparent heart attack. He was 55.

A true guitar hero, Thomasson (born Hugh Edward Thomasson Jr.) formed the Outlaws in that late 60's.

The band would quickly establish themselves as a great live band and would be known as Florida's Guitar Army, which was a reference to their unique triple lead guitar assault.

In 1974, they would become the first rock band signed by Clive Davis (who signed them immediately after seeing them open up for Lynyrd Skynyrd at the Civic Center in Columbus, Georgia) for his then new label, Arista Records.

As legend has it, the band had just left the stage when Skynyrd front man Ronnie Van Zant said to Davis, "If you don't sign the Outlaws, you're the dumbest music person I've ever met... and I know you're not."

In August of 1975, the Outlaws -- consisting of Hughie Thomasson (lead guitar, vocals), Monte Yoho (drums), Henry Paul (electric and acoustic guitar, vocals), Billy Jones (lead guitar, vocals) and Frank O'Keefe (bass guitar) -- would release their self-titled debut album produced by Paul Rothchild (The Doors/Janis Joplin/Paul Butterfield Blues Band/Love).

The album would be their first of three to go gold (sales of over 500,000 units) in their illustrious career and would enter the Top 40 (as would three of the band's subsequent albums). The band would record 13 albums in all.

Hughie Thomasson wrote the majority of the Outlaws' greatest hits including "There Goes Another Love Song," "Hurry Sundown" and the rock anthem, "Green Grass & High Tides," which remains one of the most requested classic rock songs of all-time and was recently named by Country Music Television (CMT) as one of the top Greatest Southern Rock Songs.

The band continued in various incarnations through the mid 90's until Hughie joined his friends in Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1996 for a ten-year stint. He would co-write several of the band's songs during his tenure.

In 2005, at the suggestion of their longtime and original manager Charlie Brusco, the band reunited with drummers David Dix (an original member of the Outlaws who began performing with Hughie in the late 60's) and Monte Yoho along with bassist Randy Threet and guitarist Chris Anderson for a successful 30th Anniversary tour of the United States.

This past summer, the Outlaws toured as part of the immensely popular Charlie Daniels Volunteer Jam Tour along with the Marshall Tucker Band.

Ironically, the band just completed their forthcoming album tentatively titled, Once An Outlaw, which was produced by Hughie. He also had hopes of re-releasing his So Low solo project as Lone Outlaw later this year.

David Dix of the Outlaws - "When he picked up a guitar, magic happened. It is an honor for me to have played a small part in his musical legacy."

Monte Yoho of the Outlaws - "Hugh Edward Thomasson was my friend, brother, band mate, greatest guitar player I had ever seen, and most importantly, a true Southern Gentlemen that will be missed forever but never forgotten."

Charlie Brusco (Manager) - Hughie Thomasson, besides being one of the premier guitarists of our era, was also a warm and gentle person who would do just about anything for someone in need. He was a good friend for 34 years whether I was managing him or on the sidelines. He was one of a kind. Green Grass and High Tides Forever... Fly on Freebird... We are all better from our times with you."

Jeff Albright (Publicist) - "To his friends, he was known as Flame... through the brilliant music he left behind, that's something that will be burning bright for many years to come. You'd be hard pressed to find a better guitar player or better human being, period. May he be in a place you only dream of where your soul is always free."

He is survived by his wife of more than twenty years, Mary Thomasson, his daughter Constance Golder, an adult son and granddaughter.

"Always remember that there's a little Outlaw in all of us. May your grass be green and your tides high." --Hughie Thomasson

The family has asked that donations be made in Hughie's honor be made to three organizations:

The Heroes Fund - an organization that provides assistance to the families of veterans who have financial or medical hardships as well as providing grants to other veterans related organizations.

The Angelus - a non-profit organization, The Angelus is a residential group home near Tampa, Florida for severely handicapped persons who are not able to care for themselves. All of the residents and students have cerebral palsy and all use wheelchairs.

The Freedom Calls Foundation - a foundation that provides over a million minutes of voice communications and hundreds and hundreds of video links per month via satellite for our troops to see and talk to their loved ones back home.

The Outlaws were planning benefit concerts for the above organizations.

Watch the 'Help!' DVD trailer here

Apple Corps Ltd have announced the eagerly anticipated DVD release of The Beatles' second feature film 'Help!' on October 30th (October 29th Rest of the World) which will be marketed and distributed by EMI Music.

Directed by Richard Lester, who also directed the band's debut feature film 'A Hard Days Night', 'Help!' made its theatrical debut in 1965. The story follows The Beatles as they become passive recipients of an outside plot that revolves around Ringo's possession of a sacrificial ring, which he cannot remove from his finger. As a result, he and his bandmates John, Paul and George are chased from London to the Austrian Alps and the Bahamas by religious cult members, a mad scientist and the London police.

In addition to starring the Beatles, 'Help!' has a witty script, a great cast of British character actors and features 7 classic Beatles tracks, including:

• 'Help!'

• 'You're Going To Lose That Girl'

• 'You've Got To Hide Your Love Away'

• 'Ticket To Ride'

• 'I Need You'

• 'The Night Before'

• 'Another Girl'

The DVD will be a 2-disc set. Disc 1 will feature the original film digitally restored with a newly created 5.1 soundtrack, while Disc 2 contains an hour of extra features, including:

•The Beatles in Help! – 30 minute documentary about the making of the film with Richard Lester, the cast and crew.  Includes exclusive behind the scenes footage of The Beatles on set.

•A Missing Scene – Featuring Wendy Richard

•The Restoration of Help! – An in depth look at the restoration process.

•Memories of Help! – The cast and crew reminisce

•Theatrical Trailers – 2 US trailers and 1 Spanish trailer.

•1965 US Radio Spots - Hidden in disc menus.

There will be 2 editions of the DVD - a standard digipack and a deluxe boxed set that will contain a reproduction of Richard Lester's original annotated script, 8 lobby cards and a poster, plus a 60-page book with rarely seen photographs and production notes from the movie. Both the deluxe book and the standard booklet feature an introduction by Richard Lester and an appreciation by Martin Scorsese.

The Very Best of Mick Jagger

THE VERY BEST OF MICK JAGGER, the first overview of his distinguished solo career, is set for release in the U.S. on October 2, on Atlantic/Rhino Records. It's a vivid reminder of the compelling gifts that brought Jagger fame in the first place. As an embodiment of all that rock 'n' roll can mean, he is virtually without peer and that is made plain on this compelling 17-track collection, which includes three previously unreleased performances.

But Mick, for better or worse, is also one of those figures who has far eclipsed the realm of rock 'n' roll to become one of the most recognizable names and faces in the world, as celebrated for who he is as for what he's accomplished. Indeed, he is a "musician and songwriter," one of the greatest singers in rock 'n' roll history, and a restless, adventurous artist.

The earliest track on the album is "Memo From Turner," a raw, R&B burner (showcasing Ry Cooder on slide guitar) that was featured in the seminal 1970 film Performance, in which Jagger also starred. The most recent track, "Old Habits Die Hard," also references Jagger's film career. It originally appeared on the soundtrack (produced by Jagger and former Eurythmic Dave Stewart) of the 2004 film Alfie, and it won a Golden Globe for "Best Original Song."

In between those two peaks, separated by more than three decades, Jagger released four solo albums: She's The Boss (1985), Primitive Cool (1987), Wandering Spirit (1993), and Goddess In The Doorway (2001). Ten selections from those albums appear on THE VERY BEST OF, including "God Gave Me Everything," which Jagger cowrote with Lenny Kravitz; "Joy," on which Bono contributes a guest vocal; "Sweet Thing," the singer's irresistibly sensual 1993 single; and "Evening Gown," a paean to lasting love that closes out this set.

THE VERY BEST OF also includes two dynamic collaborations on Motown songs, a favorite source of material for Jagger over the years. Reggae legend Peter Tosh, one of the founding members of The Wailers, was among the first artists signed to Rolling Stones Records in the late '70s. For Tosh's 1978 album, Bush Doctor, he and Jagger collaborated on a seductive duet on The Temptations' hit, "(You Got to Walk And) Don't Look Back," which was written by Smokey Robinson and Ronald White.

Then, in 1985, Jagger teamed up with David Bowie to scorch Martha & The Vandellas' classic "Dancing in the Street," which was released as a single as part of the Live Aid effort to raise funds for famine relief in Ethiopia. The song went to #1 in England, and the video for it premiered at the Live Aid concert in Philadelphia.

The sizzling "Too Many Cooks (Spoil The Soup)," was produced by John Lennon and recorded by Jagger in 1973 in Los Angeles. The track features an all-star lineup that includes guitarists Danny Kortchmar and Jesse Ed Davis, keyboardist Al Kooper, bassist Jack Bruce, drummer Jim Keltner, and, on background vocals, singer-songwriter Harry Nilsson. It has never previously been released.

The album's two additional previously unreleased tracks are demos from Jagger's Wandering Spirit session with producer Rick Rubin. Jagger had sketched out "Charmed Life" (with his daughter Karis on backing vocals) but then decided the track didn't fit with the rest of the album. The rhythmically charged version on THE VERY BEST OF has been remixed by producer Ashley Beedle. "Taking the bare bones of the song and getting to the finished version with Ashley Beedle was a great creative collaboration," remarks Jagger.

Meanwhile, as they were making Wandering Spirit, Rubin suggested that Jagger spend a day recording with The Red Devils, a torrid L.A. blues band. "The difficult decision I was faced with when listening to the tracks I recorded with the Red Devils, and having to choose only one, reminded me what a great band they were," says Jagger. One of the results of that session is Jagger's previously unreleased rollicking version of Sonny Boy Williamson's "Checkin' Up On My Baby."

While, for the most part, Jagger shuns self-revelation in his songs, this collection constitutes as rich a portrait of the singer as can be imagined. It shows him embracing a wide variety of musical forms-blues, reggae, rock 'n' roll, dance music, ballads -- and impressing his own inimitable mark on them. It shows him addressing matters of the body and the spirit and celebrating all the ways that music engages us in our lives and in the lives of others. It shows Mick Jagger as a musician, singer, and songwriter, in short, and that's finally who he is. The very best of him is very good indeed.

"It was such a disparate time with lots of ups and down-fortunately mostly up-like you do generally have in life," explains Jagger. "For me, it's a great thing to listen to since all the songs speak to a certain time and make things come alive for me."

A deluxe edition, which includes a bonus DVD featuring a newly filmed interview with Mick, seven videos, an excerpt from the Being Mick documentary, and two performance clips -- one of which is his duet on Saturday Night Live with Peter Tosh, will also be available.

Heart Problems Force Kiss To Become A Trio For The Night

Paul Stanley of KISS, was forced to pull out of a show in CALIFORNIA on FRIDAY after his heart started beating at more than twice the normal level, he said on his Web site.  "My heart spontaneously jumped to 190 plus beats per minute, where it stayed for over an hour necessitating paramedics to start an IV and give me a shot to momentarily stop my heart and get it into a normal pattern," STANLEY wrote on his site www.paulstanley.com.

STANLEY said he was advised performing would be risky, and the show went on without him. Fellow principal GENE SIMMONS told fans the group would play as a trio, and turned the show into a tribute to his ailing bandmate.

Best wishes to Paul Stanley for a speedy and complete recovery.

This time, to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the ground-breaking album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", with the music from the album performed in its entirety.

What do you get when you cross The Beatles with Metallica?

What do you get when you cross The Beatles with Metallica?
Every once in awhile a tribute band catches our attention. We recently heard the music of Beatalicca, a tribute band with a completely original concept. Beatallica plays Beatles songs, but they rearranged the songs to the sound of Metallica.  The singer performs an amazing imitation of the vocal stylings of James Hetfield. Check it out, it's worth a listen.

From their press release:
THINK THAT THE BEATLES AND METALLICA ARE MUSICALLY WORLDS APART? BEATALLICA WILL PROVE YOU WRONG, WITH SGT. HETFIELDS MOTORBREATH PUB BAND!

Although the Beatles certainly had some heavy moments (Helter Skelter, Revolution or I Want You (Shes So Heavy), anyone?), they are certainly not considered a metal band.
And on the other side of the coin, Metallica is not considered a pop band.

But then along comes Beatallica, and the lines between both acts have been erased as heard
throughout their first official release, Sgt. Hetfields Motorbreath Pub Band.

Comprised of members Jaymz Lennfield (vocals, guitar), Greg Hammettson (guitar), Kliff McBurtney (bass), and Ringo Larz (drums), Beatallica has been converting naysayers into believers for years by this point having made fans throughout the world, and also with such
renowned headbangers as Dream Theaters Mike Portnoy and Anthraxs Scott Ian.

Originally coming to the attention of Headbangers everywhere with their initial Internet phenomenon story, the quartet has signed on with Oglio Records, to release 'Sgt. Hetfield's Motorbreath Pub Band' on July 10th.

As evidenced by such song titles as "And Justice For All My Loving," "Leper Madonna," and "Ktulu (He's So Heavy)," the quartet's knack for combining both these music giants together remains as sharp as ever.

Not just a studio creation, Beatallica has amassed a huge following - known as the Beatallibangers - throughout the world due to their fun, hard rocking live show, as they've played shows with such metal heavy weights as Motorhead, and have even headlined open-air festivals themselves.

Further U.S. and Euro live dates beckon, as well as video clips for "Revol-ooh-tion" and "A Garage Dayz Nite."

Wings Alumni to Take Flight

Wings Alumni to Take Flight
Laine, Jubar and Seiwell Planning Tour

PHILADELPHIA-JULY 10, 2007 - Three of the key members of Paul McCartney and Wings played together for the first time at the recent Fest for Beatles Fans in Las Vegas. The concert was part of the first anniversary celebration of The Beatles LOVE™ by Cirque du Soleil®.

Denny Somach of ClassicRockCentral.com spoke to Denny Laine, Lawrence Jubar and Denny Seiwell. According to Laine, the three are discussing plans for a tour in the near future. Details are sketchy at this time and no exact dates have been announced.

Wings was formed in August 1971, shortly after the breakup of The Beatles, by ex-Beatle Paul McCartney. They achieved widespread success during the 1970s despite continual personnel changes.

The only three members in all of the different versions of Wings were McCartney, his wife Linda, and ex-Moody Blues guitarist and singer Denny Laine.

Laine was a founding member of the Moody Blues and sang lead vocals on their first hit “Go Now.”  He is also a solo artist in his own right.

McCartney, on his second solo album, Ram, added selected outside musicians, including drummer Denny Seiwell. In August 1971, Seiwell and guitarist/singer Denny Laine joined Paul and Linda McCartney to record Paul's third post-Beatles project, Wild Life, which was the first project credited to Wings.

Denny Seiwell received an invitation from Paul McCartney to become a founding member of Wings and toured with the band and played on many of their biggest hits. Other highlights of Seiwell's career include work with Joe Cocker, Donovan, and The Who on the London Symphony Orchestra’s version of the Rock Opera "Tommy." Denny's signature drumming can also be heard on records by Art Garfunkel, James Brown, Astrud Gilberto, Deniece Williams, Janis Joplin's posthumous Farewell Song album and Billy Joel's "Cold Spring Harbor."

In October 1972, Wings recorded the theme song to the James Bond film “Live and Let Die”, which reunited McCartney with Beatles producer/arranger George Martin. The song was a huge worldwide hit.

In 1978, lead guitarist Laurence Juber joined the band and remained until it disbanded in April 1981. He became a studio musician and played guitar for numerous television shows, including Happy Days and Family Ties. In 1990, he released his first solo album, Solo Flight.

In February of 1981, Juber left the band and in April of that year, it was announced that Denny Laine also had left Wings, and that the band had been disbanded.

Laurence produced Al Stewart's latest CD, A Beach Full of Shells and he is also a regular columnist for "Guitar World Acoustic."

Of all the ex-Beatles musical projects, Wings is viewed as a standalone band, as opposed to just a Paul McCartney backing group. Denny Laine and other members wrote songs and contributed lead and backing vocals. McCartney was undoubtedly the band's leader and focal point.

During its lifespan, Wings had 14 top-10 singles (including six #1s) in the US.
All 23 singles credited to Wings reached the US Top 40.

Of the albums credited to Wings went top 10 in either the UK or US, with 5 consecutive #1s in the US (surprisingly, the only Wings album not to reach the
US Top 10 was Wings Greatest).

Wings' 1977 single, "Mull of Kintyre", a McCartney-Laine ballad is still the biggest-selling non-charity single in the UK and it ranked fourth in the official list of best selling singles in the UK. Interestingly, it was not a success in the US.

Zeppelin Reunion Rumors Again

Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones, the surviving members of the legendary Led Zeppelin, reportedly are planning to reunite to perform at a memorial concert in honor of Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun.  A date has not yet been set.

Reports are that the band will be joined by their late drummer’s son, Jason Bonham, for a special concert in London in Ertegun’s memory.  Jason Bonham performed with Plant, Page and Jones in 1988 in New York City at the Atlantic Records 40th Anniversary concert at Madison Square Garden.

Sources with the band said that following the memorial concert a decision will be made as to whether Led Zeppelin will conduct a reunion tour.

In early 2007, rumors surfaced yet again of a possible Led Zeppelin reunion, yet spokespeople for the band denied its authenticity.

Foghat to Release Live Album Again (Again)

ClassicRockCentral.Com (June 1, 2007) - Foghat, the premiere rock blues band will release a new live album in June titled Foghat Live II.  The two CD package comes almost thirty years after the multi-platinum Foghat Live was unleashed. Co-founder Roger Earl and current guitarist/vocalist Charlie Huhn sat down with Classic Rock Central at the famed Studio 4 outside Philadelphia to discuss the band, new live album, future plans and more.

Photo - (left to right): Phil Nicolo, Studio 4; Denny Somach of ClassicRockCentral.com; Roger Earl and Charlie Huhn of Foghat

Best known for their live performances and classic rock anthems "Slow Ride", "Fool for the City" and "I Just Wanna Make Love to You", Foghat continues to bring their hard-edged rock boogie blues to the masses, as the band will be touring non-stop throughout the year.

The group features Roger Earl (drums), Craig MacGregor (bass), Charlie Huhn (vocals/guitars) and Bryan Bassett (lead/slide guitar).

Foghat Live, released in 1977 is considered to be one of the best live albums of the 70's. Foghat Live II continues the blues-rock frenzy that they are best known for. It was recorded live in California in 2005, and features high energy versions of Foghat classics like Drivin' Wheel, and Stone Blue, as well as the aforementioned Slow Ride, I Just Want to Make Love to You and Fool for the City. The set will also include several additional studio rehearsal bonus tracks.

Classic Rock Central will present portions of the exclusive interview with Roger Earl and Charlie Huhn throughout the summer. Earl, one of rock’s most celebrated drummers covers the history of Foghat as well as his stint in the legendary British band Savoy Brown, his audition for Jimi Hendrix in the late 60’s, his musical family and much, much more.  His colorful and varied career has made him a witness to rock and roll legends from Muddy Waters to the Rolling Stones and everything in between.

Doors Open Up to Classic Rock Central: Superstar Producer Dick Wolf to Produce Doors Documentary and Manzarek and Krieger to Record

ClassicRockCentral.com (May 16)- Two of the founding members of the Doors performed last night as Riders on the Storm at the Keswick Theatre outside Philadelphia. Classic Rock Central was there to speak exclusively with the band.

Ray Manzarek and Robbie Krieger have chosen Brett Scallions as their new front man. Scallions is the former lead singer for the platinum selling band Fuel.
"Jim Morrison can never be replaced, but this project has never been about that," expressed guitarist Krieger when The Cult's Ian Astbury departed the group earlier this year. "Brett is on board and we are glad to have him,” states keyboardist Manzarek. “He has a great voice and a lot of charisma."

Brett Scallions departed Fuel in early 2006 after fronting the multi-platinum act for over a decade. The rock band best known for the hit songs “Hemmorage,” “Bittersweet” and “Shimmer” tried in vain to recruit American Idol's Chris Daughtry as a replacement. Scallions has moved on from Fuel and looks forward to working with Manzarek and Krieger. "Having an opportunity to share the stage with these great musicians is more exciting than anything I've ever done. I'm so proud to be a part of this," declared the vocalist.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of The Doors. The Venice Beach, California, based band released their first record in 1967. In February of 2007 the band was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award and a star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Classic Rock Central spoke with Ray Manzarek and Robbie Krieger where they revealed some of their exciting future plans.

According to Manzarek, superstar producer Dick Wolf, of the “Law and Order” television series will be producing a Doors documentary for theatrical release in 2008. It will contain original footage of the band during their heyday along with interviews of the band members.
In addition, Riders on the Storm will cut a new CD sometime later this year of new material. It is planned to include a couple of unreleased Warren Zevon songs as well as new material from Manzarek and Krieger.

The band will also perform live on the "death day" of Jim Morrison, July 3rd in Paris. Krieger said he's been to Jim's grave several times and it's become the third most popular tourist attraction in Paris.

Classic Rock Central will make the officially authorized 20th Anniversary of The Doors radio special available on its site at ClassicRockCentral.com in July.

The Doors - Let It Roll, Baby, Roll Live in Boston

Rhino Unearths Early and Late Shows from the First Night of the Band's Final
Tour for a Three-Disc Set Featuring Unreleased Performances. Available July 24 from
Bright Midnight Archives and Rhino.

LOS ANGELES -- After a controversial incident on stage in Miami shortened The Doors' 1969 tour, the band roared back in 1970 with the astounding Morrison Hotel, followed by an inspired tour; their last with singer Jim Morrison. Bright Midnight Archives celebrates the beginning of an era's end with a three-disc set that captures the tour's first stop at the Boston
Arena on April 10, 1970. Featuring complete recordings of both the early and late shows, THE DOORS LIVE IN BOSTON '70 is available July 24 at all retail outlets and at www.rhino.com and www.thedoors.com for a suggested retail price of $29.98. The set will be available digitally for $24.99. The set can be preordered now at www.thedoors.com,  as can an exclusive, limited-edition commemorative T-shirt.

Featuring more than three hours music and mayhem, LIVE IN BOSTON finds keyboardist Ray Manzarek, drummer John Densmore and guitarist Robby Krieger at the peak of their powers as Morrison leads them on a booze-fueled romp through "Roadhouse Blues" and "Light My Fire," plus mind-bending journeys for "When The Music's Over" and Elvis Presley's "Mystery Train." Morrison scatters spoken work gems throughout both performances including a short riff on Adolf Hitler where he professes: "Adolf Hilter is still alive, I slept with her last night."

LIVE IN BOSTON is mixed and mastered by engineer Bruce Botnick, who recorded
several shows from The Doors' 1970 tour on multi-track tape for the Absolutely Live album. The superior quality of the original tape reflects Botnick and his team's attention to sonic detail. All but two tracks on this collection are previously unreleased. "These concerts are really interesting and very enjoyable," Botnick writes in the liner notes. "The opening scream going into 'Roadhouse Blues' from the first show is stunning and worth the price of admission."

The liner notes also feature the three surviving members of The Doors recalling that special night in Boston. "A Surgeon General's warning should be stickered on this recording, because Jimbo is ripped!" says Densmore. "But... but, he is so damn passionate and still hits all the cues with the band, so all I can say is, 'En Vino Veritas' (in wine is the truth)." "What
a wild Doors night," adds Manzarek. "We never knew what was going to happen when the shaman went over the edge. And this night is over the edge. He's beyond the pale, like Kurtz in Apocalypse Now. Like Dean Moriarty in On The Road."

Hendrix Estate Gags On Hendrix Electric Vodka

VODKA SELLERS VIOLATE JIMI HENDRIX TRADEMARKS

March 12, 2007, Seattle, WA:  Since 1995, Al Hendrix, the sole heir of Jimi Hendrix, and his close family members and their companies have been singularly committed to preserving Jimi Hendrix’s musical, cultural and artistic legacy.  Al Hendrix was concerned that Leon Hendrix did not share that commitment and; therefore, did not want Leon to participate in the family companies spearheading that effort.

Al Hendrix died in 2002 and left the ownership and management of the Jimi Hendrix legacy in the hands of selected members of his family, but not Leon Hendrix. SQL_INJECTION_ATTEMPTed.  Having failed in court, in 2006, Craig Deiffenbach, Leon Hendrix and their companies began violating the Hendrix family trademarks in a tasteless campaign to sell vodka and other merchandise.

Experience Hendrix owns numerous trademarks, many of which it has registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.  The Hendrix family companies have used the trademarks of Jimi Hendrix’s name, his image, his signature and other logos in careful marketing of Jimi’s music, recordings, artistic properties and related merchandise throughout the world.  Last week, Experience Hendrix, LLC filed a lawsuit against Dieffenbach and his companies to enforce these trademark rights, which are not the same as the “personality rights” addressed in a 2005 court decision, which is still awaiting appellate court review.

Noting that the Hendrix family company trademarks continue to be fully protected by federal law, Bob Hendrix, Vice President of Experience Hendrix, observed:  “Al Hendrix and other Hendrix family managers he appointed over the years have worked hard to preserve and protect the legacy of Jimi Hendrix.  Since Al’s death in 2002, we have done our utmost to continue on the path he envisioned.  There is no question that he would be saddened by this.  Our trademarks are protected by federal law.  The unauthorized use of those marks by this vodka enterprise underscores the reason why Al didn’t want Leon Hendrix and his associates involved in the Hendrix family companies.”

About Experience Hendrix: Experience Hendrix, LLC is the family owned company entrusted with preserving and protecting the legacy of Jimi Hendrix.  The core of its operations concern Jimi Hendrix's music, name, and likeness.  Visit http://www.jimihendrix.com/

Brad Delp of Boston Dead by Suicide

Brad Delp, lead singer of the band Boston, apparently died by suicide.  A statement from Delp's family was relayed Wednesday through police, "He was a man who gave all he had to give to everyone around him, whether family, friends, fans or strangers, he gave as long as he could, as best he could, and he was very tired. We take comfort in knowing that he is now, at last, at peace." Delp, 55, died Friday at his Atkinson, NH home.

Toxicology tests by the state medical examiner's office showed that Delp committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning, said Lt. William Baldwin. Police said Delp had sealed himself inside a bathroom with two charcoal grills sometime between 11:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday afternoon, when he was found by fiancee Pamela Sullivan.

Delp also left two notes taped to a door and letters to his family and Sullivan. Baldwin said police do not know the contents of the letters. The family's statement said Sullivan, Delp's children and their mother, Delp's ex-wife Micki Delp, were grateful for the sympathy they had received.

Delp joined Boston in the mid-1970s and sang two of its biggest hits, "More than a Feeling" and "Long Time." The family said last week it planned a private funeral followed by a public memorial to be scheduled later.

David Lee Roth Boycotting Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction
David Lee Roth, the legendary and infamous original lead singer of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame class of 2007 inductee Van Halen is boycotting the ceremony being held March 12 in New York City. The reason for the boycott is that David Lee Roth wants to perform at the show, and instead producers of the show will have the band Velvet Revolver performing Van Halen songs. Apparently the producers made the decision when they learned that Eddie Van Halen was not going to attend because he may be entering rehab, and that Alex Van Halen will not attend because Eddie will not be there. That leaves Michael Anthony, who will be there and will perform with Velver Revolver, David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar. The producers felt it was awkward having David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar take the stage together since th
